Belga News Agency wins European News Agency Award

Mr Tom Wuytack, ICT Manager at Belga News Agency, Brussels, and his editorial and ICT colleagues have been awarded the European Alliance of News Agencies´ (EANA) 2014 Award for Excellence in News Agency Quality. Belga receives the prize for its service BelgaBox, a personal toolbox for journalists with anywhere, anytime, anydevice access to all editorial services provided by the news agency.

The EANA board, that also serves as the Jury for the Award, unanimously decided to give the award to the Belga team saying:

“BelgaBox is an excellent example of how innovative and cost effective use of technology can make editorial jobs streamlined by creating a close and easy-to-use link between the news agency´s editorial services and journalists working for newspapers, broadcasters and other publishers. The BelgaBox´ attractiveness is shown by the fact that already a couple of months after launching, the service had more than 1 000 users in Belgium.

The Jury decided to give the Award to Mr Wuytack and his team stressing the BelgaBox´ flexibility and usefulness and that it can serve as an inspiration also for other news agencies.”

Mr Wuytack, born 1975, joined Belga in 2002 as Project Coordinator and is since 2010 the agency´s ICT Manager. He holds a degree as Master Civil Engineer Architecture and Master Urbanism & Spatial Planning.

The Award, a diploma, an engraved pen and Euro 1 000, will be handed over to Mr Wuytack by the EANA President, Mr Peter Kropsch, CEO of Austrian news agency APA, in connection with an EANA conference and the organisation´s Annual General Assembly hosted by news agency HINA in Split, Croatia on September 24 – 26, 2014.
