The Board of EANA calls on the Slovenian government to restart legal financing of STA

During the past year, we have witnessed the degrading situation of STA, which has been an esteemed member of EANA for many years. We recognize and uphold the right of STA to function according to the Slovenian law, and strongly support the journalistic principles that stand at the basis of STA's activity as a news agency. We consider that STA, as any national news agency, is one of the main pillars of democracy in Slovenia, and it doesn't deserve to be shattered by adverse policy. On the contrary, quality journalism and unbiased news should be supported, not hindered.

Having all the above in mind, the Board of EANA calls on the Slovenian government to restart the legal financing of STA by lawfully pursuing procedures that are meant to provide stability to the Slovenian national news agency. The political pressure on STA should come to an end.
